Rui Melicio is born in Lisbon (Portugal). Electrical Engineering by the Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (1977, Portugal). Master (MSc) in Electrical and Computer Engineering, in the Power Systems branch, by Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (2004, Portugal). Doctor (PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Universidade da Beira Interior, Covilhã (2010, Portugal). Post-Doctor (Post-PhD) in Electrical and Informatic Engineering, Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, Portugal, grant: SFRH/BPD/68585/2010, Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade da Beira Interior, Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (2012, Portugal). Habilitation (Agregação) in Mechatronics and Energy Engineering by the University of Évora (2014, Portugal). Assistant Professor with Habilitation at University of Évora. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society.

 

Present research and interests: Power systems management and operation; power electronics and its applications; renewable energies; smart grids; use of high-temperature superconducting materials; mechatronics systems and aerospace.
